This installation was part of an ‘on side growing’ group exhibition ‘cast an eye without a blush’ at Stedelijk Museum ‘s Hertogenbosch (NL). This exhibition was the second part of a collboration between artist Chris Brans, Klaas Burger, Mark van den Heuvel (graphic designer), Marleen de Puydt, Rieneke de Vries, Germen Zoer. The first exhibition was at the Art Pie Istanbul (part of the Tuyap Art Fair).
During my two weeks stay in Istanbul I investigated the Turkish culture by collecting and photographing things I found interesting. In Stedelijk Museum ‘s Hertogenbosch I created a Turkish period room. I showed the Turkish culture through the eyes of a tourist. I think ‘period rooms’ in general are a bit strange, they’re subjective and without clichés cultural unrecognizable. I also wondered if I’m a bit Turkish because I like Turkish kitsch.
